She is such an obedient child! When correcting her, I always take the time to explain why she cannot have or do something and this seems to be satisfactory for her to accept and comply. It amazes me, really. I should pray harder that this stage never ends...
The first time I let her dispense her own hand soap, I told her "just a little bit." Now she says that every single time she goes to wash her hands: "jus-a-li-lul-bit?"
She is very candid with everything she says. She will explain what she is doing or what is happening or repeat phrases we tell her over and over when it applies, like this favorite:
Brian: "ow, this food is hot!" Avery: "Then blow on it, dad." haha. It's nice to know she pays attention.
Her please's and no-thank-you's get her far.
My favorite expression to see her use is when she's done a no-no (as in poop in her diaper) and she scrunches her nose and says with a yucky face "thas-a-no-no." The funniest thing is that she is mimicking us to a tee. who is this kid?
I love it when she voluntarily expresses: "I'm excited, mom!" or "I had fun at ____"
She's just begun to really talk to Brian on the phone in conversation. She loves to recount her day. I love to see her wheels turning. "I wen to da gocery store, dad. an the paygound. yeah, fun. I ride da bus, dad." It's like her whole world revolves around these simple things and I love it!
We've taught Avery that when someone is crying, they are sad. It's precious when she is hurt over something and says, "I sad, mom" through tears.
When she gets teary/touchy and ornery over little things, we tell her she needs to stop crying or she can go to her room and she needs to be happy to stay. She'll try really hard to pull herself together then say with enthusiasm, "I happy dad! I stop crying." through stuttering sniffles but with a smile and resolve. What a sweetie.
On that note, sometimes when she wakes up and lets herself out of her room, she sees us and joyfully proclaims "I happy! I happy mom, I happy dad." Thanks, Avery... now go back to bed it's 6:30. ;-) hehe. How can you turn away a child like that?
She likes to act out tip-toeing down the hallway.
Once I put Avery to bed without dad and she asks: "daddy big hug?"
Avery takes good care of Aspen. She will voluntarily say "I go cheer Aspen" when she's crying. She'll offer toys. Or she'll tell me "Baby crying. Go gi er" if she's crying in the crib. In the car to a crying Aspen: "shh, baby, is alright. Don' cry" then she commences to sing twinkle little star for baby and asks us to join in.
Avery has a good imagination. She often proclaims "the witch coming! hide!" (I think from a dora episode). Her blocks are "Happy birthday cake." She'll name all sorts of things that she draws on her chalk board too.
She found a can of icing in the food storage room asking what it's for. I said for your birthday. She immediately goes upstairs looking for a cake mix for it. Obviously her birthday musn't be postponed. It took me a long while to explain that her birthday wasn't for a while.
