Mint Chocolate Chip

I like ice cream (you could probably guess by the length of this blog)! Since the first time I picked my favorite ice cream, it has been so ever since: Mint chocolate chip. Furthermore, when I discovered Breyer's mint chocolate chip, no other brand has hit it the way Breyer's did. I then became an ice cream snob and can hardly waste my money and sugar intake on cheap ice cream; it's just not worth it.

There have been other ice cream flavors along the way that have certainly tickled my fancy, but there's something about a classic and your first love. Cookies-n-cream has come very close; I actually prefer the chocolate cookie over the chocolate chip. Plus, I've been surprised to note that cheaper brands can pull off cookies-n-cream rather well. It's an all around great flavor - another classic - but nothing cuts me to the bone like my mint...

About that, I was horrified recently to have a batch of Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip that did not nail it the way it has before. What happened?? I'm lost without it!! I decided to try making my favorite ice cream flavor at home (feeling I was setting myself up for disappointment). And, yes, I was disappointed the first night - fresh out of the maker - it was super fluffy/airy and I couldn't stand it. But the next night, WOW! KABOOM! My love has returned to me! I guess it's the texture that I'm so finicky about. It's gotta be smooth, kind of icy, and dense. I am so pleased, I just hope I can replicate it! Here's a picture (and yes, it's pink thanks to Avery because that's the best part about making your own - maybe next time blue!)
